Wikis

Ok, trying to catch up here, had a look at the wiki's we were told to, liked the booklovers wiki the best, as a good way for people to share their favourite reads, and find others that they may not have otherwise.
Made my comment on the Libraries 2.0 wiki page, that was pretty straighforward.

RSS feeds

RSS feeds. I can see the use for them in keeping up to date with new info/news on your favourite sites, for study and personal use, but I found them a bit frustrating to start with. Once I finally got them to work I generally stuck with the news sites RSS feeds as well as the Powerhouse museum picture of the day, which for me was Sandstone detail of a building in Pyrmont. Photographed for the 2006 Powerhouse Museum exhibition, Paradise, Purgatory and Hellhole: a history of Pyrmont and Ultimo.Pyrmont was the source of some of the best, building sandstone in the 1850’s.File #00z03703. Photography by Jean-François Lanzarone. I guess in future if I see the RSS feed on a site I regularly visit I may think about subscribing, and it is very useful knowing abit more about how they work, but how much I'll actually use them, time will tell.

The photo I've got from flickr is from the South Island of New Zealand. It's of Lake Hawea and is a lovely place. I love taking photos like this myself so that's what drew me to this one, plus I grew up in the South Island so photos from home have an added attraction.

I had some problems getting a picture but with a bit of help finally got it sorted.

Had a look at the Mosman Library photos and they have quite a collection of photo's on their Flickr site, along with a link from their council library site to flickr. A nice way to share their collection with the public. Plus they have one link inviting the public to share their photos of the annual Mosman festival. Searching my local area didn't bring up many photos, but at least there were some.

the beginning

Well, here I am, finally joining the masses in the world of blogging. It's all very new and strange to begin with, but not too difficult, so far, only a couple of false starts as I wanted to change a couple of things after I'd started. Have decided this could be quite a useful way of keeping in touch with friends overseas and a much better way of sharing photos, rather than clogging up e-mail boxes with oversized attachments - well, that's what I hope to be able to do in the future. I'm looking forward to learning more about some of the new things that are out there and how to use them.
